No, instructions say you have to manually defrost. However, any frost build-up has been very slow.

As far as I know it is frost free. I have no build up of ice in this freezer. It is so full of frozen foods and breads. My son and I really love this freezer and are very glad that I bought it. Take advantage of all the sales and freeze them, as everything is very expensive. Watch for the frozen entrees in all grocery stores and check the discount areas too. I highly recommend this freezer.
