Do I need internet to operate? Fire HD means what? null

There are some games (apps) you can play without wifi, once downloaded, but generally speaking, yes, you need wifi to access the majority of features, unless previously downloaded.

Fire s the name of Amazon's small "tablet" computers. HD stands for high definition--an improvement in the display quality. As with any computer you will need the internet for anything you want to do online. Without internet any application loaded onto your Fire HD will work but will of course be limited to that one computer.
