Alexa is able to do many more things (as of now) than Google home. It can shop for you where GH cannot.

The product actually works via Google so it even does contextual understanding. - For example, "Okay Google, who is Bill Gates?" "Okay Google, what is his net worth?" "Okay Google, where did he grow up?" "Okay Google, how old is he?" You never needed to repeat Bill Gates name again, Google Assistant understand you are still talking about Bill Gates. If you try to search for things via the Amazon Echo it is a bit of a nightmare to be honest. She does some things very well like telling you who the president of the United States is, but that's about it. You typically need to specify for Alexa to search via Wiki. Google Home also works with other Google products like Chromecast which is pretty handy. Do keep in mind that the Google Home is really new so I highly recommend Geek Squads Two Year Product Replacement.
