The only requirement for this device to work in a wifi connection. Setup itself will require temporary access via a laptop or other smart device (such as a smart phone or tablet) that has wifi ability. After setup is completed, the only requirement the Dot/Echo/Tap requires is a wifi connection.

Depending on what you want to do, from nothing to a lot. If you want Alexa to tell you your wife's name, need nothing. (Just try it, you will love the response) If you want to control lights and TV etc, yes you need to spend more money.

Depends on what you need it for. Out of the box it can play music for you with its limited speakers or you can get a external speaker to connect to it if audio fidelity is a concern. If you want to use it for smart home integration, then you may need to get a smart home hub that's compatible with it.

That really depends on what you are trying to do with it. If you are just simply trying to use the basic functions (Weather, News, Traffic, etc., then no accessories are required. However, if you are looking to control Lights, or other smart home devices then they are completely separate and need to purchased separately.

Just wifi. It does work best if you have an Amazon Prime subscription. Then you can access the free music.
