For me, the biggest difference is that the sound quality is *much* better on the Echo 3rd generation. You can actually listen to music on it and not be annoyed by tinny sound and distortions. It sounds even better if you buy a second one and set them up as a stereo pair. I have them set up that way in my home office and I can listen to them for hours without any problems.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Only difference is a few features and the quality of the gadget itself
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Way better sound quality with the Echo Dot (3rd Gen). Top surface Blue light ring is also brighter.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.2nd one is not as nice looking, looks like a hockey puck to me. Also the 3rd as better sound, seems to hear better
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I own 1 2nd-generation and 3 3rd-generation echo dots. The 2nd generation is made of a hard plastic much like cheaper cameras are made. The 3rd generation version has a more pleasing appearance that looks like a soft cloth on the bottom and a leather-like look to the top (even though it is neither). The biggest difference to me is the sound of the speakers. 2nd generation is okay but the 3rd generation has much better separation. They both work the same. I'm happy enough with the 2nd generation version that I certainly wouldn't replace it with a 3rd generation. But that's just me. I have one in my den, office, bedroom, husband's man cave and my craft room. The neatest thing is to program it so that I can play the same music "everywhere" at the same time. Be sure to check that feature out if you have more than one dot! I can do housework and hear my music "everywhere".
