• Hello, Music2020! In order to set up an Echo Dot, you would need the Alexa App on your phone or computer. You would only need the App for the set up process, not for the continued use of the device. Once it is set up and on WiFi, you can talk to the device and use it as often as you would like. • No, it requires either a computer or smartphone with the Alexa app to put it on wifi. Without another device, you have a paperweight. It is only required for the initial setup, though. If there is a power outage and it cannot reconnect to the wifi automatically, you will need the app/PC again.

• You need to access to the app to get the thing going. I would imagine someone on the Activities staff could help you with this, just setting it up with their phone, then they could delete the app.

• In order to connect to the wifi in the area you need a device such as a smart phone to complete the initial setup. You might be able to accomplish the setup with a borrowed phone but I cant be certain.
