No, you can listen to free music on the Echo Show. It's just the basic free-with-ads version of Amazon Music, I think, so you can say something like "play classic rock," and it will do that. But if you say "play Bob Marley," it will direct you to subscribe to their service. Then it will play things "similar" to Bob Marley, but not the specific thing you are asking for, because they want you to pay for that. You could also listen to music through Youtube on this device, which is free but probably has ads on most of it.
