I think that depends on taste and budget. The bass is more than adequate with just the speaker however I’m sure the sub would add positivities to the sound. Please note I only have the 1 Studio speaker but I have 2 subs on my main sound system which consists of a Yamaha Aventage AVR, Oppo bdp, Pioneer Elite & Polk speakers and an Audio Technica turntable. Subs not only add fuller tighter bass but also can allow for finer details with the kids & highs because your speakers can focus more on those instead of working hard to crank out all the frequencies. So my point is the sub is not needed yet will improve the overall sound but probably not enough to equal the added price: law of diminishing returns. Just my opinion

Yes this device can be paired with another Studio device to create an Alexa Home Theater for your Fire TV or Fire TV streaming device. You can also pair them with an Echo Sub in order to add additional bass to it but it is optional. I hope this helps answer your question and that you have an awesome day!
