I compared cover to my first gen fire and it seemed a lot bigger to me. my first gen in cover seemed to fit in the size of the screen for the 8.9. That being said, it still seems a nice size to carry around vs say a 10in tablet. Sorry cant tell about how video's look. But from reviews I hear the screen is same for both hd 7in and 8.9in. hope that helps.
