• The operating system takes up space. Same with computers. They tell you size of drive, not how much space is left.

• Hi Compgeek65, If you are referring to the internal storage capacity when you turn on the device, there are some internal apps that are built into the tablet when you start it up that use up some of that space. You do also have the option for the expandable storage through the micro usb with this tablet. Hope this info helps. Have a great day!
