Hello, Hockey18! The best way to describe the slate color is a very dark gray. As far as the soft-touch finish, that is a bit harder to explain in words. It looks very sleek, but doesn't have the hard metallic look or hard plastic look as some previous tablets had. It looks and feels a little softer to the touch.
