It is identical to the kindle 7, but comes with the bumper, warranty, and 1 year subscription to "free time unlimited" which is the kids profile app. When signed out of the "free time unlimited" it acts just like any other kindle fire tablet you would purchase. I have netflix, espn, comcast, etc. so I can use it to mess around with when my son isn't using it.

The parents can download any App on the Amazon App Store. It does not have as many as the google Play Store but Most popular Apps are available. You can then choose which apps are available to the Child account.

It depends whether you are in the kids section of the Kindle or the parent. The parent can purchase / download from a full range of apps. The child only sees apps that Amazon has related to their age group. Under 10 or over 10.

You can download any app you feel comfortable with. Then you have to set it up with parental control and that would be fine.
