OH, EXTERNAL... Sorry, my brain thought internal. If Amazon does a firmware update that will allow the Cube to use the micro USB port to connect to an external HDD (while you must at that point use the Cube with WiFi) then it could be possible? However that might be way in the future with all the other release issues that need to be fixed. Other than the Micro USB port there is no other port that I see could support an External HDD... I think this cube is just the 1st stepping stone in the way of replacing cable boxes with cloud based DVRs, but I do expect a serious APP based true DVR to be eventually released from Amazon purely based on Echo (Alexa) and Apps working with a DVR.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.yes I added a 128 gb flash drive to me fire stick setup. I don't know what the max flash drive you can use . But my set up works good, I have a 128gb flash drive 3.0 scandisk. I have a fire tv stick 4k device. I set up the stick with adb shell command to whatever app I download goes on the usb drive. Cool. You would need a otg cable, usb drive, and adb remote commands.

The link below gives a great overview of what the micro USB can be used for in addition to external storage. http://www.aftvnews.com/everything-you-can-do-with-the-amazon-fire-tv-cubes-micro-usb-port-ethernet-device-storage-external-drives-peripherals-flirc-otg-and-more/

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are no slots for adding an SD and I haven’t seen the inside of the Cube, but I highly doubt it has (for example) an internal SSD HD. All I can do to hopefully help you feel better about making this a cable box and more like a DVR is to subscribe to Sling App. I paid $12 a month per cable box and we had 3 boxes. I didn’t feel the shock until I just did the math and realized I paid $36 a month for the last 180+ months renting cable boxes for over $6,500.00 and thats without the cost of the overpriced cable channels. Sling TV App starts at $20 for good channels (as some channels are free with Apps) and I upgraded to the $25 Channel plan with 47 channels and opted for the $5 a month 50 hours of cloud DVR! So with Sling I can record up to 50 hours of content (even at the same time if 4 stations are playing what I want to watch) and technically its not downloaded and doesn’t eat my internet. Its just instantly there until I want to watch it. Cloud based DVR is great, it doesnt Allow for every situation but I can download up to just about 2gb worth of video/music. Someday I think this may improve. Hope this helps
