as far as local channels go it depends on if they stream in your area Otherwise you need to get an antenna to get local channels

I don't believe you can use it to get local channels. You can download the different television apps for ABC, CBS, etc. Using these you can your local programming.

You can download an app to the firestick that allows you to watch live tv which may have your local channels on it.

I bought an indoor antenna from Amazon with a 50-mile range that picks up my local channels from New Orleans

Get a digital antenna for about $25 dollars. It works great and you can usually pick up about 10-16 channels.
