You don't have to, they are charging to add Kodi on it and a streaming build

Chances are somebody is sideloading other apps that will get you shows/movies (most likely not "channels" per se). Amazon works the legit way. So they offer apps, some of which are free to use/watch, and some you need a subscription with your cable company already (or open a new online account with them)

Please try again later.There are channels already loaded to the Fire TV Stick, however, they're mostly Amazon Prime channels, which you would need to pay for the Amazon Prime service to access. If you want to watch other channels, you should be able to add them the same way you add channels to a smart TV or blue-ray player.

However if you want the free movies and tv shows that's a big thing now, you have to get somebody else to do it for you. Source- I jailbreak them myself... you can find a lot cheaper than $40 for the downloads. I charge $60 for the Firestick AND the downloads (just $20 for the jailbreak)
