It charges the individual Kindle book prices listed on amazon. You could look into Kindle Unlimited (11.99 per month). Kindle unlimited gives you access to a huge library of books and magazines. I think there are great books to choose from to read. Kindle unlimited is not included with prime, unfortunately.

A Kindle unlimited subscription can be purchased for access to thousands of books, owned eBook files can be moved to the device, and books can be purchased individually through the Kindle store.
