• Books should stay with you Kindle account. If you set up a new Kindle with the old account information, transfer should be automatic.

• If you bought the books through amazon, then they are in your Cloud and can be downloaded again. If they were books you uploaded yourself, you will need to either transfer them by USB cable to a computer, there is also a way to email documents to a Kindle, look at Amazon's support site for more info.
