How is the battery life? How long can you read (number of hours) before the battery runs out? How long does it take to charge?

The length of battery time does vary according to how bright you have your screen and whether or not you are in airplane mode. When I am away from home, I turn on airplane mode so the kindle isn't constantly searching for an internet connection and have found I can get between five and six hours of reading time. Also, If you use the Kindle covers offered by Amazon, the battery tends to run down faster ( I think it's because when you close the cover, it turns off the kindle but I think it just puts it into standby mode as the kindle tuns on automatically when you open it again)

I read a lot. Only charge after a couple of days. Charging requires a couple of hours.

Mine has lasted in excess of five weeks reading an hour or two a day. Charging takes a couple of hours to fully charge from depleted

Wife gets about 40 hours. Using ac charger, charges within 2 hours easily, never really timed it
