Hello, AmarB0803! Yes, those are the same thing. The special offers (or ads) are just suggestions for books when the Kindle Paperwhite is on its lock screen. Have a great day!

There is a lock screen ad (instead of an image of your current book), but only about books, I think, not obnoxious ads unrelated to reading. There is also a bottom ad I think, which some say can be suppressed. Also know that for $15 or $20 you can have customer service remove the ad-supported, which frees it to behave as though the original owner didn't save that money by getting it ad-supported. Some people say that if you are a good Amazon customer and/or the customer service person is in a good mood, then they might do it for free, but no guarantees. Get Amazon customer service clicking on Help at the low end of an Amazon page and answer all the questions as "no, its something else" until they offer a chat with a representative/agent.
