Yes, it can. The unit is solid. There are mounting holes on the bottom.

It is a sealed battery and is unlikely to leak. Scanning the set up guide there is no mention of how it must be positioned.

Thank you for your inquiry. Yes the BN650M1 can be placed on it's side if you like. It will not damage the unit being on it's side.

Instructions indicate horizontal wall mount possible and provides a template . No cautions about using horizontally . Battery is a "brick" with push on tab connections .
