QuestionI replaced my APC NS600 with a BN650M1. The new unit displays an amber lite and alarm intermittently from a few seconds to 30 or more, on and off, as long as the unit is turned on. My old unit never had this issue. Tried another new unit, same problem

- Answer You must determine your power requirement and compare that to the APC tech specs. With a new fully charged battery, 50 watts can be maintained for about an hour and 100 watts can be delivered for nearly 30 minutes. A 390 watt load (a typical pc) can be maintained for about 3 minutes according to the APC 650 runtime graph published here: https://www.apc.com/products/runtimegraph/runtime_graph.cfm?base_sku=BE650G1&chartSize=large A new battery should perform well for up to 2 years but will loose performance as it nears end-of-life which can be as long as 5 years. After that period, the ups becomes a nice surge protector until you replace the battery with the recommended unit as stated in the APC specs. A larger load will require a larger ups with correspondingly larger battery supply.

- Answer I would not recommend using a UPS device for this type of deployment. APC and other manufacturers state that devices with high, quick discharge cycles (like laser printers, flash units, etc.) should not be connected to the battery outputs of UPS units. This is because those types of power cycles tend to put different stress on the circuits and batteries. These UPS units are designed for continuous power draw.

- Answer Those most you can get out of this is about two hours depending on the amount of power the equipment takes. Ups’s are made to hold the load and gracefully shut down any equipment attached to it in a power failure event. Not sure if you will find one that will stay up for 8 hours. The most that I seen was maybe 5 hours.

- Answer This is not a charger but s battery back-up in case of a power failure. This allows sufficient time for you to save what you are working on and then safely shut your computer down..

QuestionI live off grid, when my generator kicks in there momentary lag, where my tv shuts down, will this cover the gap. There is only a 1 second lag, but that causes the tv to shut down, was hoping with a battery in this unit, it might stop that.

- Answer Our whole-house generator waits about 30 seconds to make sure the power is going to stay off before it starts up. A UPS such as this one prevents my computer and other gear from shutting down and losing their settings in that brief period before the generator takes over.
