It depends. For Apple, they usually deliver the Pre-Order at the same day of release. However, at this point, there are some delays on deliveries, probably because the release day stock has ran out. You can still try it on the Apple website and see if you can get it by release day. For Best Buy, well, they start shipping at release day. Which means that you would get it the day after at the earliest. You can Pre-Order it and pick it up In-Store or at the Curbside Pick-Up (which is contactless if you are worried about COVID-19 related reasons) at the release date as soon as they open on the store where you selected your Pick-Up.
