It definitely can be used for for web searches. It comes with safari built in. For word processing you can purchase a separate keyboard for it and comes with Apples word processor “Pages”. For serious word processing many recommended the iPad Pro. Hope this helps.

WiFi a printer and you’re good to go. You might want a keyboard case if you’re doing a ton of typing. See screenshot of Word app.
