Yes, this is possible. Many scanners or multifunctional printers today have Network or WiFi access to AirPrint function of apple devices. These can be used to initiate scan from device. Check if scanner supports this function.

Hi, you can directly take a photo using your iPad camera and turn it to a scanned pdf document. I am not quite sure why u would need to add an extra scanner though.
