“I have an iphone but have never had an ipad. With the 10th gen having no face id, would I need to enter individual passwords for apps that on my phone usually open with face id (banks,etc)?”

• lack of Face ID is a downfall however you can log into most apps with the Touch ID . it works fine for me and my iPad.

• No, you don’t have to enter individual passwords. It has Touch ID just like old iPhones, and uses that in place of Face ID.
