You can skip it and have no lock protection

No you can have it wide open with no passcode or facial recognition. Just a swipe up and it is open to use.

You can skip it, you just won’t be able to use Apple Pay or password remembering functions. In set up it allows you to skip the security set up.

You do not have to use any kind of protection to use it. You are able to skip past those screens during set up. Once you do you’ll just swipe to unlock. Or if you have the Smart Covers it will unlock once you open it
