The iPad that is wifi only connects to the internet when you are connected to a wifi or a hotspot. There is a “cellular” version, which you have to get an additional cellular line on your family plan and it is linked to the iPad. With this version, you can get yo the internet wherever you are, as long as you have cellular signal. It works just as your cellular phone
