“Does this work with iPhone 12 pro max and if not what would be the appropriate power cord; the one that comes with this $1500 phone is only about 18 inches long!!”

I also have the iPhone 12 pro max and that was why I bought the 6 foot charging cable as the one that came with the phone was too short. You will love it.

Yes it does but you will need to get the “c” power adapter they come in different watts. I use a 28 watts for my iPhone 10 XS Max and my new iPhone 12 pro Max . Good luck I know this will work for you.
