“Hey geniuses -- My wife is a Mac user and we just upgraded her from her 5y old MacBook to this iMac, and it is SLOWER than her old book. How is this possible? Is this normal or something we can try to fix before returning?”

It's unfortunately normal. The Apple Support technicians I spoke to about it mentioned that this iMac has a new form of magnetic memory that takes longer than the traditional, not to mention, there is only 8 GB of RAM. I couldn't believe how slow it was!
