Good question regarding a teen. There’s a great possibility. My daughter uses it in their car when going to large events in order to locate then car after the event by tracking on her iPhone

Possibly not, since if your kids also have iPhones, then phone will alert them if there is an unregistered tag, traveling with them. This was done to prevent someone from stalking another person. You can research more about this online.
