“I have many homekit devices including a lockset on my front door, what is to keep someone from yelling "hey Siri unlock front door" and just like that my house is invaded?”

Hello, the HomePod can’t unlock your smart lock, for security reasons it can only lock it. The only apple devices that can unlock a smart door lock it’s an IPhone or an iPad with touch/face id or PIN number to authenticate it’s you opening the doors.

Depending on the smart lock, you should be able to have a setting where that only occurs when you/your phone is present.

You can turn off the “Hey Siri” feature.
