Absolutely, your HomePod is considered a hub so all your Apple devices can and will connect to it. If you are the administrator you can invite others/devices to be able to connect to it, this way anytime that the owner/device is commanded to do something it will recognize that owner/device and act according to that owner/device preferences.

One person can start playing a song on the HomePod using Airplay, and another person associated to the same "Home" can jump in and switch which song is being.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The HomePod is connected to an Apple account thru your home WiFi system, not specifically to your iPhone, however your iPhone is used to help set it up. It copies your phone settings for your Apple account and home WiFi setting over to the HomePod.
