I simply started setting up my new iPad Mini 6, and it told me to hold my old iPad near it - and it copied EVERYTHING in just a few minutes. Literally minutes! It was amazing. Every single thing was copied. Easiest transfer I ever had in my life.

You have 3 choices:
1. Connect your old iPad to your laptop and back it up on your laptop. Then connect your new iPad and restore from the previous back up made with your old iPad. 
2. When you turn on your new iPad, a pop up window on your old ipad will show up. It will tell you if you want to set up your new ipad with your current iPad. 
3. Use iCloud, just go to settings/iCloud/backup
Then on your new iPad, sign in with your Apple ID and choose restore from iCloud.

it is all automatic.  at set up you can use one of your past backups.  You will be prompted. All apple related data/purchases  should auto transfer.

The best way is to back up the old iPad to the cloud. If you don’t have enough cloud storage, you can get 50 extra GB for only 99 cents per month. If you don’t want to keep the subscription, just do what you need to do then cancel.
