The differences between the 1st and 2nd generation Apple Pencils are: -price -features -ways of charging -design The first gen Apple pencil is very round and rather slippery. It'll just roll off somewhere. Might want to put like a skin or a rubber cover on it so it doesn't slide. It also uses the extremely akward and poorly design lighting connector top that plugs in either in the IPad or using the included adapter from the box. It also has a cap to cover the top. The 1st gen Apple pencil is only compatible with IPads that have the classic design (large black or white bexels with touch ID home button) and lighnting port such as the IPad Generation series or the older 5th gen IPad mini. The cost of the 1st gen pencil is under a $100. The second gen Apple Pencil is the updated pencil that connects via magnets on the righhand side of the current (almost) all screen design IPads. These IPads are IPad Pro 2018- current year, IPad Air 4th gen and the new IPad Mini 6th gen. The pencil charges when connected on the side of the ipad via magnets and has features where you can double tap the squared off side to either erase or go back to previous tool. The pencil has a matte feel and due to having a squared off design on one side, it doesn't roll off (or at least not as easy.) The Apple Pencil 2nd Gen is $129.99. There is a lot more features available, but those are the main highlighted ones.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Pencil one requires a lightening port to charge. It is round in shape. Pencil two connects magnetically to the USB-C equipped iPad, so it is a big improvement for connectivity. The Pencil two is closer in shape to a wooden pencil, so it can magnetically connect to the compatible iPads.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Pencil 1 does not work with this iPad pencil 2 is the upgraded version
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Pencil 1 only works with ipad Air and ipad mini 5. Hangs out weird to charge. Pencil 2 works with new ipads and mini’s. It is a magnetic charge right on the devices. Pretty awesome. Totally recommend pencil 2. It has new features with IOS 15 update.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would say the first generation sucks because like you would have to pair it from the charging area and charge it there but with the second generation I like how it charges from the top of the magnetic iPads
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.First gen you have to plug in to charge. Second gen you charge wireless, you can stick to the side of the ipad to charge it holds with magnets
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The way you charge it is so much better!!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Apple Pencil two can magnetically attach to the pad for charging , the Apple Pencil 1 requires a changing table
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Pencil 2 snaps to the side of the unit to charge and is basically secure and out of the way. Pencil 1 sticks out of the USB port to charge which is clumsy, and doesn’t attach magnetically. I believe you must use the Pencil 2 with the mini 6. The 1 is not compatible.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. For gods sake. Just read the product info on any page the are sold. pencel 2 is wireless charging. pencel 1 you have to plug into a lightning port
