• The cellular model has an e-SIM. None of the models use a physical SIM. Apple has phased out physical SIMS on all its iPhones and now on the iPad mini 7. All models are WiFi capable out of the box. No SIM (or e-SIM) is ever required for WiFi. You only need a SIM (or e-SIM) if you want to use CELLULAR data. Data over WiFi uses entirely different technology and it is built-in on every iPad, whether cellular capable or not.

• Apple puts their own SIM card in so it doesn’t get changed. You buy it already installed.

• You do not need a SIM card. It has an eSIM if you’re getting the cellular version.

• The cellular iPads require a SIM - the wireless one doesn't need it
