You should be able to keep your existing plan unless there were some specific agreements in place when you set your plan up that would preclude it. I just purchased an iPhone 12 mini through Best Buy and it seamlessly replaced my old phone on my Verizon plan. Verizon did impose a one-time charge of $30 (I think) to make the change which I consider a ripoff.
