• This isn't an unlocked phone. I had a conversation with best buy and T-Mobile in this regard. They said that this is a locked phone. However, the carrier can unlock it later if you satisfy their elibility criteria.

• Yes, after you meet T-Mobiles terms & conditions and have made additional monthly payments that are additional monthly payments towards your T-Mobile service bill that ends up being 6 months to a year before you can have it unlocked.
