I have an electronic drum set with MIDI capacity and this adapter works with my iPad Pro 2nd gen. just fine using GarageBand. The hookup you ask about is the exact hookup I do with my drum set. Plug in the USB “A" male into the adapter which now plugs into your iPad, take the other end of your keyboard USB cord and plug it into the USB port. Then using GarageBand or other MIDI software you should be good to go. Hope this helps...
