The Macbook pro is the high-end model of the Mac laptop line. 'Better' is relative, the Pro has faster and bigger everything, but that's only better if you need the capability for some reason. If you are just watching movies, surfing the web, and doing homework, the Air is just fine. If you are editing graphics/movies or running multiple Virtual Machines, the the Pro is what you would need.
