How to obtain student discount on Apple laptops null

My understanding is that the student discounts are only during certain parts of the year such as in the fall when each new school year starts, and you just make an account on the website, verify that you're a student, then give the phone number associated with your account when you check out in a store. That's what I did anyway :)
