Many of the software programs engineering students rely on are graphically intensive - especially ones such as CAD, MATLAB and Solid Works that are used for 3D modelling and video rendering. This means it's essential to have a laptop with a dedicated graphics card - rather than an integrated one powered by the processor. Also, RAM will play a big part for multitasking. I would go for minimum 16GB memory. If your budget can be expanded go for the 15in with 16GB memory and i7 or i9 processor with dedicated graphics card.

Please try again later. As to whether this laptop is suitable for an engineering student, the question that needs to be answered is whether this laptop can support the software that the student will be using in his studies. Mac products are not necessarily compatible or readily compatible with some technical software. Although most software is available in a Mac version, I have found that the particular version does not necessarily function in the way it is designed for a PC and may not work for its intended purpose.

Some engineering programs are very RAM and Graphic intensive. This laptop ONLY has USB C ports. However you can buy a USB C to USB adapter for other accessories.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have both this same Mac and a HP spectre with 16gbs RAM, I7 8th gen, and 1TB SSD Samsung EVO 970, Autocad, Inventor lags sometimes with the HP, I tried to run Scilab and couldn’t run it, same with Code Warrior
