yes, get the 16gig PNY package, works great with no errors and yes to the SSD, easy upgrade, unplug the old and plug in the new, I also went with the PNY 240gig, great price and just as fast as all the other SSD for sale here. I went from a 52 second boot up to a 13 second boot up in El Capitan and a 17 second boot up in Sierra Beta 7. Very stable and dependable
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, absolutely, if you know how to do it or you are willing to put the time and patience to research about it, yes :). I wanted to do the same thing, I found a way to do it and a video, but it's not as easy as I thought, but if your product is with warranty you are going to break it if you do it, then if you take it to Apple if something happened, they might not take it or they could charge you more
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I wanted to do the same thing with my new MacBook Pro. It came with four gigs of RAM, but it is capable to hold eight gigs. So I bought it right off the shelf at Best Buy. Before installing it I went to the Apple store to ask about the warranty. Good thing I did, if you open a laptop and install memory you void the warranty immediately. I then asked if the Apple store could install it, they said no they only work on IMac's. So I returned the memory to Best Buy.

Be sure to upgrade both RAM chips at the same time, Apple like them to be balanced. Hard drive can definitely be upgraded to SSD -- that's what sets this (last) Mac Book Pro apart from everything that's come since.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you are able to do both. I did the same to an late 2008 model that my wife has and the difference blew me away. Definitely worth it!
