Yes, you can use this with the MacBook Air; it connects using Bluetooth. And you can use both simultaneously. Having one set up does not disengage the other. There are likely to be other keyboards that work but you have to make sure you find one that is compatible with the Command key if you want full keyboard functionality. This one remains the best value because it works simply, does not take up any of your ports, is rechargeable, and is made by the same company that designed and built your MacBook hardware and software.
