“Is this keyboard compatible with more protective cases? I have the apple keyboard with an additional clear case on the last model iPad, but the folio didn’t cover the whole back like this one.”

No, the keyboard folio is integrated with a full body iPad case and cannot be removed. The case covers the whole iPad but it cannot be used on any other device or be switched out for different keyboards/colors etc.
