You can watch free content as well as paid content on Apple TV. YouTube TV is a paid service. If you want that, you will have to pay for it, regardless of what platform you watch it on. The free subscription is for AppleTV+, Apple’s streaming service. The purpose of giving you a year free is to promote their service.

There is no fee unless you subscribe to YouTube’s ad-free service. You just have to pay for internet. The second question has to do with the Apple TV original content. They give you a free subscription for purchasing the hardware but then you have to pay. If there aren’t any shows you watch then cancel it before it renews.
