• You can but it will only allow you to add pictures and videos to your iOS photo app. It will not see any folders.

• This cable basically works just like a built-in USB port in a laptop would work. I was able to connect my Iphone 6 and classic Ipod to Macbookpro using this cable. You can connect a USB flash drive to your Macbook using this cable.
