I checked the Apple website. Here’s their response. Yes. The 38mm bands fit the 40mm watches. Apple Watch Series 4 comes in new sizes – 40mm and 44mm rather than 38mm and 42mm – the good news for Apple users is that the old watch bands fit the new sizes.Sep 12, 2018 Will 38 mm watch bands fit for the new 40… - Apple Community
