• Series 1 and 2 the phone must be in Bluetooth range but i believe with series 3 you don’t need a phone in Bluetooth range

• No. It pairs to your phone. If that is not an option you should consider a series 3 watch with cellular plan. (but that makes very little sence if you don't have an iPhone in the first place)

• The series 3 watch can, series 1 & 2 can not. For the series 3 Apple Watch you need to pay additional fees for LTE data. Not to sure on how exactly it all works.
