Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, I can make calls without my phone being nearby but only if I have the GPS + Cellular version of the Apple Watch. With the cellular model, the watch connects directly to the network, so I can call, text, or stream music even when my iPhone isn’t around. If I only had the GPS version, then no I wouldn’t be able to make calls unless my iPhone was nearby or connected via Wi-Fi. The GPS model doesn’t have its own cellular connection. So it depends on which version you buy.
