“My only few concerns is with the apple watch series 3 (gps) how far from radius can you make and receive calls and texts with your phone not nearby and if I can far away does it need a strong wifi signal in order to work?”

If you move too far away from your phone a little red phone icon will appear at the top of your screen showing that the phone is not currently connected. The watch will still work even if the wifi signal is not strong, there will just be a delay in the notifications you will receive from your watch.
